Spring Break

I know, I know. We've been back from our trip for over a week now, and I have yet to post a report. Sorry.

We had a wonderful time at The Club at Hammock Beach in Palm Coast, Florida. It is right on the Atlantic Ocean, between St. Augustine and Daytona Beach. (In case you wondered)

MJ got to play on the beach, but I think the water was a bit cold and the waves a bit frightening for her taste. She only got her toes wet.The boys ventured out a bit further, though.

We enjoyed the beach for a little while, but the rock wall ended up being a more popular activity. Big Z and Schmoo spent hours climbing.

Even MJ enjoyed the rock wall. She hung on pretty darn well, but I think her favorite part was the easy repelling ride down.
I've heard it reported that if you ask a kid about his favorite part of a big vacation, he'll say, "The hotel pool." I think it'd be safe to say my children would agree with that notion. But in this case, I can't blame them. This resort had an entire complex of pools, complete with a two story water slide. We spent a lot of time splashing around here.

With so many fun activities right at the hotel, we didn't venture off the premises very often. We originally planned to drive the 90-odd minutes to spend a day in Orlando. But we decided to save the time and money when realized everyone was perfectly content where we were.

The one excursion we did take was about 10 minutes down the road. We went to the Marineland Dolphin Conservation Center.

This was an amazing experience, because we actually got to don wet suits and get in the tanks with the dolphins! The trainers taught us some signals, and the dolphins followed, dancing and playing with us. They seemed genuinely friendly and eager to please. MJ was bummed, because she didn't get a turn. But for the rest of us, it was an experience we'll never forget!
