Beautiful Sights in North Carolina

I recently took a little trip to North Carolina. It is a beautiful state, and if you can make it out there any time soon, here are some sights you should keep your eyes open for.

I feel a little tense driving on curvy mountain roads with 18-wheelers on one side and a concrete barrier on the other. Even so, I still enjoyed the drive through the mountains around Asheville. This time of year, the Smokey mountain slopes are lush and green, with lavender wisteria blossoms hanging like grapes from the trees: A beautiful sight.

The middle of my drive through North Carolina was much flatter. Spending 6 hours on Interstate 40 might have been a bit dull if it hadn't been for the wildflowers. Large patches of poppies, daisies, buttercups, and many other wildflowers could be seen every few miles along the median. Every color of the rainbow was represented in one patch or another. But of course, the Interstate is not a great place to stop and take pictures. So, you may have to make the drive yourself in order to see this beautiful sight.

Perhaps the most beautiful sight I saw in North Carolina was the people. I saw people who didn't think twice about taking four strangers into their home. I saw people who stayed up all night to serve another, even though they had college exams the next day. I saw people give love without limits. It was a beautiful sight.

Field Trip to the Deer Farm

We went to the Smokey Mountain Deer Farm the other day, and had a lot of fun. Most of the animals could be fed by hand. Zac would tell you that the camel was very slobbery! He liked all the animals so much, he can't decide his favorite. I think the peacocks were my favorite.

Seth was a little bit timid about the hand to mouth contact, but he enjoyed watching. He liked the Emu best, because it would eat from a cup.

Emma, who has been an animal lover practically since birth, was not timid about anything. She learned all kinds of new words, including zonkey. Did you know that there is such an animal? That's right: it's a cross between a zebra and a donkey.

There was also a guanaco, which is apparently related to a llama. Zac and Seth threw it some corn and said, "Eat your food, Tina!" I wonder if the guanaco would have preferred casserole.

Emma's New Favorite Word

Recently Emma came to me whining. I picked her up and said, "What do you need, Emma Joy?" She stopped whining, looked at me with wide, intense eyes, and solemnly answered, " CAN'Y."

Candy has not been a regular part of Emma's diet. But I guess she got enough of a taste of it at Eastertime, that she thinks it ought to be. She has taken to asking for it not only when that certain cupboard is opened, but also out of the blue. "Can'y, can'y, can'y!" has even become the new chant when Emma is bored in the car.

Emma Joy is teething again. There is a molar coming in. I hope it's not another sweet tooth.
